WieMeister privacy policy

Last updated: 7 November 2026

WieMeister is an app for learning German, with explanations in English, Arabic, Farsi, Turkish, Ukrainian, Russian, French and Spanish. This page explains what happens to your data when you use it.

What the app stores on your phone

Your language choice, your level, lesson progress, words you are practising, your streak, your writing practice texts, your reminder time and whether you bought WieMeister Pro. All of this is kept only in the app's storage on your phone. Uninstalling the app deletes it.

In Settings you can export a backup file and import it again. The backup is a file on your phone; you decide where it goes. We don't receive a copy.

Speaking practice and the microphone

The app asks for microphone access only when you start a speaking exercise, and you can refuse it; everything else still works. While you speak, the app passes the sound to your phone's built-in speech recognition (on most Android phones this is provided by Google) and gets back the recognised words, which it compares with the sentence you were practising. Depending on your phone, this recognition may happen on the phone or on Google's servers, under Google's privacy policy. WieMeister does not record, keep or send your voice anywhere itself.

Downloads

To get new lessons and audio, the app downloads files from wiemeister.com, which is hosted by Cloudflare. These are ordinary web requests: like any website, Cloudflare can see your IP address and may keep technical logs, under Cloudflare's privacy policy. The app sends no personal data with these requests.

Purchases

WieMeister Pro is a one-time purchase made through Google Play. Google handles the payment; we never see your card or payment details. The app only learns from Google Play whether Pro was bought with your Google account, so it can unlock it and restore it on a new phone. See Google's privacy policy.

Reminders

If you turn on daily reminders, the app schedules notifications on your phone. Nothing is sent to us. You can turn them off in the app or in your phone's settings.

Sharing

When you tap Share, for example to post a challenge result to the Facebook group, the app opens your phone's share menu. What you share, and with whom, is up to you; that app's own privacy policy then applies.

Children

WieMeister is meant for teenagers and adults (13 and over). It collects no personal data from anyone, including children.

Your rights

Because we don't collect or store personal data, there is nothing for us to show, correct or delete. Your data lives on your phone, and you can delete it at any time by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling it.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
